Do You Need a House Rewire in Mosspark?

Mosspark was laid out from 1919 as a roughly 1,500-home Glasgow Corporation "garden city"-influenced scheme designed by Mactaggart and Mickel, facing Bellahouston Park — around two-thirds cottages, with semi-detached and terraced houses making up the rest, most with their own gardens. It was historically regarded as one of the most desirable Corporation tenant areas in the city, and much of that original housing stock is now well over a century old. That age, on its own, is one of the most common and legitimate reasons a rewire gets asked about — though it's never the only thing we go on.

  • The wiring is over 25–30 years old
  • There are visible signs of deterioration
  • Renovation or extension work is planned
  • The property is being upgraded for sale or rental
  • Sockets are limited or poorly positioned

Living Through It

Minimising Disruption During a Rewire

Rewiring does involve accessing walls, ceilings and floorboards — but careful planning significantly reduces the inconvenience, whether it's one of Mosspark's original cottages or a later semi-detached or terraced home in the scheme.

  • Clear scheduling agreed before work begins
  • Safe access maintained throughout the project
  • Flooring and furnishings protected
  • The property left safe at the end of every working day

FAQs

House Rewire FAQs — Mosspark

How long does a full rewire take?

There's no single answer — it depends on the size and layout of the property. After inspecting your Mosspark home, we'll agree a written timeline and schedule with you before any work begins, so you know exactly what to expect.

Can I stay in the house during rewiring?

In many cases, yes. We plan circuit phasing logically, maintain safe access throughout the project, protect flooring and furnishings, and leave the property safe at the end of each working day.

Will walls need to be repaired afterwards?

Rewiring does involve accessing walls, ceilings and floorboards to run new cable. We keep this to the minimum necessary and work carefully, but the amount of making-good varies by property — we'll talk you through what to expect when we quote.

Do all of Mosspark's older houses need a full rewire?

Not necessarily, even though much of the area dates from the same 1919 Corporation scheme. In some cases only certain circuits or areas need upgrading. We inspect the property properly and advise honestly on whether a partial upgrade is enough, or whether a full rewire makes more sense long term.

Is the work tested and certified?

Yes. Every rewire is inspected, tested and certified on completion, and carried out by qualified electricians.
